{ Numbers 22:20-22 }

20. And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, "If the men come to call you, rise and go with them; but only the word which I speak to you—that you shall do."
21. So Balaam rose in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.
22. Then God's anger was aroused because he went...

Our family has been going through the whole story with Balaam and his donkey, being called by the Moabite king, Balak, and sending princes to bring him, etc. etc. and I've always been confused with the verses above, but as we went through it as a family, I learned a few things that made things clearer to me.
The biggest issue I had with them was that God specifically tells Balaam that he can go, but then when Balaam saddles his donkey and leaves, God is angry with him! That never made sense to me and I've always thought it seems unfair to tell him he can leave and then get mad when he does!

But then we talked about it, and it was explained and now it all makes way more sense.

We went to Marion, KY to see the eclipse. Ever heard of Marion? Me neither, but that's what the eclipse does - you go places you'd never even heard of. But it was one of the best experiences of my life, hands down. And I don't normally say something was "the best experience" because they aren't, really. Most of the time people just say that to emphasize how great it was and things just aren't all thaat great, so when I say that the eclipse was one of the best experiences of my life, it really was. There's nothing else in my life that will, pun intended, eclipse this trip. It was so much fun.
I am so glad my mom really worked to make this happen (not the eclipse, just the trip) so that we would get to see it. The younger kids may not thank her when they're older, but I'm thanking her now because I think I would have been really disappointed to miss it. So thanks, Mom!

Anyway, this is what happened (so much like some people got left behind and some got stuck in traffic and decided to stay, so it was a pretty good trip overall yeah).

clear to neutral

So like a week ago Dad was talking about how he had come across this idea called "clearing to neutral". It's been around for a while - so it's not like whoaaaa new trend! like minimalism was - and he was saying how he had been thinking about doing it with his desk and wanted to see if we as a family could do it. We have a buffet in the living room that is sometimes kind of messy because when you clear the table or the couch or the hearth or just leave something out, it normally finds its way (somehow) to the buffet. It's not always so clean. So Dad's idea was to try clearing to neutral, starting with the buffet, and maybe working our way to some other areas in the house.

Here's the basic idea.

giving up youtube

Yup. I'm officially giving up YouTube...

or, dare I say...

If you've read any of my posts from this summer (or even last summer) you might know that I've been trying to do this for awhile now. But there's always been some exception. Like "I'll go back in 30 days" (yeah I didn't even make it 10 days so...) or "I'll just watch on the weekends" or whatever. Maybe these plans would have worked out? But when I made one exception to the "No YouTube Rule" like "I'll just watch one video" or "It's okay on the weekends" I usually just gave up the whole thing and ended up watching a ton of YouTube and there were no more limits to when I could watch or how much.

So I decided today to give it all up. No exceptions. There are a few reasons for this.

things going on

It's been one month since there's been a post, so I decided I should get cracking. I don't want to spend a ton of time writing because I have tons of things I want to do (VBS is next week, eeeeyaya!!) and there's a lot going on. And it's so thrilling, I love when we're super busy.

Also it might be confusing (when you get to "present") because I'm writing this on Thursday, but posting it on Friday because then it will be exactly one month since I last posted and I like things to be like that. Forewarned is forearmed.

Well... so first off...

23 May 2017

I don't know if you've heard anything about this, but there's a court case going on against a doctor who was abusive to his gymnast patients and that was like years ago and he payed hush hush money to keep them quiet but now some of the gymnasts have come out and said stuff and now there's like a trial going on.

So, like, the leading testifier (or whatever you call them) is a lady named Rachel Delhollander and she and her family go to our church.

19 May 2017

So, this past Sunday (night), my granddad fell down and broke his hip. We don't know if he tripped and fell or if his hip broke and that triggered the fall (which would be more likely), but he fell and his hip broke somehow, at some time. Apparently it was a few hours before he would let Gram call the paramedics (I think Dad said he fell down at 7...? and they finally called at 11).

So they got him to the hospital where he either had the brain aneurysm or where they found it. So they transferred him to a different hospital where they had more tools and things on hand. It's two words and starts with L and M and it's somewhere in Southern California. But I don't remember the name.

Well, anyway, he still hasn't woken up. Gram was going to stay in a hotel with my uncle's wife, Debbie, until he wakes up and can decide what he wants to do with his hip—either a brace over it or they can do something that Dad said was [more] invasive. I don't really know what it is, so I'd go with the brace. Either way, Dad said, Granddad would not be happy about his options when he woke up—or, if he wakes up.
